Last night...

This is what I got to do last night!!! TALK TO MY LOVE! It made me super happy to see his face and to talk to him and to see him smile and to see him play with the mini slinky I sent to him in his last care package! I miss him tons and I wish it was time for him to come home. I just want to cuddle in his arms again, hold his hand, tickle him, kick him in the butt, watch movies, play video games, and bury my head in his chest and smell him. You know that yummy man smell ;). I know we shall be reunited soon and I absolutely cannot wait! The time apart has been really hard, but I feel like it has made us so much stronger as a couple. I feel closer to him than I ever have and I didn't know it was possible to miss someone as much as I miss him. I try my best to cheer him up when he is having bad days, let him know that he is loved and missed, tell him how much he means to me, and express how excited I am for our future together to begin. There isn't a second that goes by that I don't think of him and wish that we could be together. However, he's doing what was put on this earth to do. He's living his dream and I am so happy and proud of him for being so hardworking and dedicated in his career. He really is one of the most amazing people I have ever met. He has been through so much in his life, the good, the bad, and the ugly and yet he stays strong and pushes on. I am so grateful and lucky to be able to call him mine. Once my boyfriend, now my Fiance', and my soon-to-be husband. I love you babe!

Pumpkin Patch

After work today the bestie and I went to the Pumpkin Patch, Sleepy Hollow in St. Augusta to be exact! It actually took us a really long time to find the perfect pumpkins because so many of them were already rotten and/or smashed. We also didn't want any super big ones but eventually we found the perfect pair. Then we went back to her apartment and carved them up! Mine is the larger one. Lisa made hers look like a vampire and named him Edward. I had no idea what mine was supposed to be so mine is nameless. He just looks goofy that's really all I can say! We also ordered Pizza Hut and had a pizza party after carving and watched some American Horror story. All in all, it was a great relaxing night!
It made me really wish Jake was home. I cannot wait until next year when I will be with my hubs and be able to go get pumpkins with him and carve them together! It's going to be epic. Being able to do little things like that mean the most to me. Fun traditions that we can start together once we are a family. Ahh...I can't wait for "someday" to be here!

'Tis the Season

We got our first snow today. Not much, but snow is snow. I'm not sure how I feel about it. I'm not a fan of being cold and commuting to work/school in snow storms sucks! However, building snowmen, throwing snowballs, sledding, ice skating, and of course SNOWMOBILING is awesome! So Leila (my pup) got her parka on today to keep warm out there! It amazes me how everyone on Facebook needs to announce that it's snowing. Like we can't look outside and see that it is? Seriously people, this is snows. It's not really worthy of a Facebook status unless it's a giant storm that leaves behind 30 feet of snow.
I also got my Halloween costume in the mail! It's just a simple tunic dress, but it's Power Ranger so it's awesome. I got it from TV Store Online. They have a ton of cool tunic dresses in the form of various TV characters, superheros, Ghost Busters, TMNT, etc. They are awesome and they aren't very expensive either. I just needed something simple because I'm going to the bars on Halloween and I didn't want anything too costumey.

I also completed my Halloween mini tour at Old Chicago last night! Woot woot. The shirts are pretty awesome too. Sorry for the middle fingers. We were trying to decide what to do when you are taking pictures of your back and my friend's boyfriend was like"MIDDLE FINGERS!" so that's what we did haha. We are such badasses. NOT.

NEW Truck

Today we went out and got a new truck! 2012 Chevy Silverado, sexy as hell, and rides like a dream! It's my dad's and it's his first ever new vehicle. It was worth a big chunk of change so it took some coaxing to get him to actually leave with it but we convinced him. He has wanted a truck for a very long time and he had all the money, in cash, so he wouldn't have to worry about any loans. It is a really nice truck and now he has something to haul around his bobcat and do some work on the side with it. For the past couple years he has been driving my '95 Blazer which has over 300,000 miles on it. It's not going to last much longer and he works hard and definitely deserved to get something nice for himself for once. I'm happy for him! =]
However, as soon as we got home he started picking at every little detail of the truck. Small scratches on the bed and hood, hail damage? Now he is second guessing his purchase, thinking he paid too much for something with a few aesthetic imperfections.  I'm not sure if he will end up keeping the truck or bringing it back. I understand a little bit of buyers remorse. My dad has always been stingy, never wanting to spend a lot of money on anything. This is a good quality, at times, but he does need this truck, and he has wanted one for a long time. Sometimes you just have to go for the things you want and allow yourself to be happy about it. In the long run, this truck will pay for itself and he needs to think about that.

Halloween Care Package

Yay! He received his Halloween themed box so now I can share it! Halloween is my second favorite Holiday (my first being Independence Day) so putting this box was a lot of fun for me. I decorated the bottom of the package with orange construction paper and random monster/pumpkin stickers and of course the words "HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!"

The Sides
  • Random zombie pictures, foam stickers of pumpkins, bats, the moon, ghosts, haunted house, etc. I also glued in some spiders which actually look really neat! I hope they stayed intact during transit. I then glued in a envelope on one side and put in a little letter to him.
The Flaps
  • Two flaps are of Halloween scrapbook paper, the other two are just black paper, but it's velvet black paper so its fun to touch. haha. I wrote a big "I LOVE YOU" with hearts on one and the other has some more random pictures on it.
The Contents
  • First off, I filled eight treat bags with some licorice, a mini granola bar, and some candy corn. I told him he could keep them to himself or share, I just liked the bags and wanted to use them. I also added the handheld game "Battleship", a slinky (I know there's probably not stairs to use but you can play with it just in your hands too), Jolly Ranchers, a growing skeleton (when you put it in water), silly putty, parachute jumpers, glow sword, a mini pumpkin I decorated, chocolate covered pretzels, beef steak sticks, pop rocks, ring pops, two suckers, and the left over Twizzlers. To top it off I added some spider webs on the top!

11 Things About Me
1. My little sister Ryann is my best friend. She is the craziest, funniest, most enjoyable person to be around. She's 10 and full of drama. But I love her dearly.
2. I have three dogs. They are spoiled rotten and they are the best dogs in the world. If you don't have a dog you are missing out. Nothing compares to the joy and love they give me. When I'm having  a bad day they know it and they do everything they can to cheer me up.
3. I worked at a Veterinary Clinic for 4 and a half years. Best experience of my life. I learned so many things I will never forget and I met a lot of great people.
4. I'm on my last year of Undergrad work in College! YIPPEEE!!!
5. I am engaged to the most wonderful man ever. He's a Marine and currently in Afghanistan. I can't wait for him to get his ass back home so we can get hitched and start a life together.
6. I am a nerd. I love dinosaurs, reading, Doctor Who, aliens, watching "How it's Made" and learning about the world. I also play a lot of video games (when I have the time).
7. I am probably the shyest person you will ever meet. I have reasons for it but I've been working on it for a couple years now and most would say I am a lot better than I used to me.
8. I am a Greek. I used to be a member of the Sorority Kappa Phi Omega but branched out with other girls to bring a new Sorority to campus. We aren't like the stereotypes. Being involved in the Greek Community has forever changed my life and I love everything about it.

10. I love converse and bright colors.

Answers to Haylie's Questions:

1. Where did you grow up?

Two things: I wanted to be a vet because I've always had such a passion for animals. I also always wanted to be a Police Officer, specifically working in the K9 Unit.

I love this question! Mostly because I see myself in a really great place 5 years from now. I see myself married to the man of my dreams, graduated with a Masters degree. I see myself working in a rehabilitation clinic for young women with eating disorders. I see a child in my arms, or a child on the way. I see a small, quaint, peaceful house to spend time with my family. I just see a lot of happiness and that's really all I can ask for.

New Pet

Today we got a new pet! A wee little Crayfish that my little sis, Ryann, got to bring home from school. Her class learned all about crayfish in science class. Their physical attributes, habitat, what they eat, etc. She has been coming home from school everyday telling everyone about what she learned about them. The class held a drawing for the crayfish once their unit was over, and she got to take one home. We made a little habitat for her in a plastic bin with fish gravel, and we put a bowl in there upside down with a hole cut in the side (looks like in igloo) for it to hide in. They apparently hate light and love to sleep and chill out in small dark places, hence the bowl. They also eat crushed cat food every other day. Chances are the Crayfish won't last long, but Ryann is taking good care of it and she's really excited about it. She has taken it upon herself to name her "Sparkles." Not sure where that came from or how it fits but it is what it is.  She brought home a hand out that she filled out in school so we could determine if her Crayfish is a boy or a girl. Turns out we have a girl! We know this because it has more swimmerets underneath her tail compared to what male Crayfish have and our Crayfish has an egg-port. Ryann taught me all about that and showed me how to tell the difference. It was a learning experience for me! Crayfish really are neat creatures. Very fun to watch and observe!

"A Relationship Like That"

Lately, I have been guilty of the unhealthy thought "I wish I had a relationship like that." Every time I see couples walking hand in hand at the mall, park, or around campus this thought crosses my mind. I spend too much time wishing I had something with Jake that I don't instead of making the most of what I do have with him. I miss him. I miss being around him, talking, holding hands, laughing, just being in his presence, knowing that he is close and within reach. You don't appreciate the little things until they are gone. I am not at all able to call up my man and ask him to come over or have him come with me to run errands or go fishing or swimming, or hug me when I'm having a bad day. I can't hold hands, have tickle fights, or go on dates anymore. I envy the couples I see hanging out together, bonding, and having fun because I will be in a relationship with my love for a year and a half before any of that will be possible. It's hard constantly thinking "I wish I could have a relationship like that", and constantly feeling a void inside your heart where something is noticeably missing every single day you wake up.

I need to stop thinking about what I could have and focus on what I do have. I have an amazingly sweet, romantic, sappy fiance' who lets me know every single day how much I mean to him and how much he loves me. I have a man that would do anything for me no matter what I need and no matter the obstacle. I have a man who is smart, passionate, and hardworking. I have a man that inspires me every single day to be a better person and to pursue my own dreams. He gives me hope that I am strong enough and smart enough to make all my dreams and goals come true. I have a man who loves me unconditionally, despite my flaws and insecurities. I have a man who puts my happiness before his own. I have a man that is an excellent cook and enjoys making me meals. I have a man that can't wait to say "I do" with me standing in front of him. I have a man who wants to sit down with me and help plan our wedding. I have a man who is a total complete nerdy geek, which is the most attractive thing I could ever find in a man.

I have someone who loves me unconditionally even through the distance, lonely nights, and rough times. I know that one day, when we finally get the opportunity to be together, we will be a GREAT couple. One that other people look at and think "I wish I had an epically awesome loving relationship like that." One day we will be the couple many people envy. I've come to realize that love is greater than the material things. Greater than the physical aspects of a relationship. One day I will get my turn. In the meantime be patient be calm and enjoy and appreciate what you do have in your life.

Sunday afternoon before work I went out and played in the leaves with my sister and the dogs. It was a blast! I love everything about the fall. Wearing warm sweaters, sipping hot chocolate and apple cider, sitting outside reading, raking leaves and jumping into them, watching all the beautiful Minnesota trees change red, orange, and yellow. Wearing leggings, boots, and yoga pants. Carving pumpkins, decorating for Halloween, and dressing up in costumes. My sister and I also love throwing blankets on the trampoline and laying out there looking at the sky. Fall is the perfect season for rollerblading through town and biking at the park. Lazy Sunday afternoons just laying on the couch, snuggled up in blankets with my dogs laying all around me while a movie plays in the TV. Wearing cute mittens and beautiful scarves. Fall is a wonderful season to be with family and friends and to love and appreciate nature and be thankful for all the blessings you have in your life.

My little sister, Ryann, and I got crafty today and decorated our mini pumpkins! All we did was paint them with acrylic paint with the use of foam brushes. The faces are painted on with a paint pen and the googly eyes were just glued on! I also melted crayons on the pink and purple ones. It was fun and they actually turned out really good! Next, I want to get the white mini pumpkins and paint black designs on them. Make them pretty and elegant!

Next I experimented with spray paint. It doesn't stay on very well and chips off easily if you handle it to much, but I must admit it looks pretty badass!
The first picture is just the plain metallic silver spray paint. I later took a paint pen and tried making a design (I'm not very good at making swirls). The next pumpkin has a base coat of purple acrylic paint then I lightly sprayed it with the silver (holding the can a good two feet away) so you can still see the purple through the silver. Turned out really good!

We also got into a baking mood and made some Banana Pudding Poke Cake! See original recipe HERE. It is delicious!!!
